Symbology of Gift Giving

Man has always responded to the end of the annual planetary cycle with ceremonies and other observances that included the giving of gifts. North American Indians danced, feasted and exchanged ceremonial gifts. The winter solstice has always been a time of gift giving. And the concept of giving gifts at a time of renewal (i.e. birthdays, new births and anniversaries) has long been a common denominator in the recognition of the ongoing cycle of life.
